3.1 Provision of Services
This document explains the basics of Aerodrome control.
Aerodrome control consists of the following positions:
- Clearance Delivery (_DEL),
- Ground Movement Control (_GND)
- Tower Control (_TWR).
CHAPTER 1 – PROVISION OF SERVICES
1.1 An aerodrome control unit shall provide:-
- Aerodrome control service
- Flight Information service
- Alerting service
1.2 An aerodrome control unit provides services principally to aircraft flying with visual reference to the surface in an aerodrome traffic zone (ATZ), where one is established, or, in the aerodrome traffic circuit when the aerodrome is situated within a CTR. It is normally a separate unit but may be combined, either permanently or temporarily, with an Approach control unit.
1.3 When aerodrome control is not provided by one ATC, the various services are provided as follows:
- Clearance Delivery ( _DEL )
- This unit is only responsible for providing departure clearances, weather information and essential aerodrome information.
- Ground Movement Control ( _GND )
- This unit is responsible for all aircraft on all the taxiways & non-active runways.
- Tower Control ( _TWR )
- This unit is responsible for all the active runways and the surrounding control zone (CTR).
